Iran imported 51,000 tons of tyres in the first seven months of the current Iranian calendar year which began March 20. This is a six per cent decrease compared to the same period in the previous year, the ISNA News Agency reported.
Some 120,000 tons of tyres were also produced in Iran during the aforementioned period which is eight per cent less than same time span in the previous year.
Iran had produced 130,000 tons of tyres in the first seven months of the last Iranian calendar year.
Iran previously reduced its customs charges for importing truck tyres by 15 per cent to reach 11 per cent, IRNA quoted an official with the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Trade as saying on November 10.
"The decision has been taken in order to meet the national transportation fleet demand for heavy duty tyres," Hassan Radmard said.
