Iranian banks have allocated $2.3 billion to purchase medicaments in the first eight months of Iranian calendar year, which began March 20, spokesman for Iran's Forex Center said on Sunday.

The amount shows a 28 percent increase compared to the same period previous year, the IRNA News Agency quoted Samad Karimi as saying.

"The Iranian Central Bank provided $1.4 billion of the mentioned amount and other Iranian banks supplied the rest," he added.

Karimi went on to note that the CBI has approved to provide some other $400 million to purchase medicaments for the last 40 days.

The total amount is expected to reach $3.3 billion by the end of the eighth month of the current year, he said.

"The Iranian Central Bank provided the needed amount to purchase the medicaments," Abdzadeh said, Fars News Agency reported.

Head of the Iranian Parliament's Health Committee, Hossein Ali Shahriari, said on November 5 that the Iranian Central Bank has allocated 500 million euros to medicament imports.
