The Georgian National Commission for Energy and Water Regulation today approved the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources' initiative to reduce the electricity tariffs.
The commission has approved three-month memorandums agreed upon by the Ministry and "Telasi" and "Energy Pro" power distribution companies to reduce the electricity tariffs by 3.5 Tetri ($1=1.66 Lari) from January 1st, 2013.
These memorandums are of a transitional nature. They apply to 90% of people consuming from 0 to 300 kWh. They envisage reducing the tariffs for a period of three months without any conditions by 3.5 Tetri.
The payment will decrease from 13.48 Tetri to 9.94 Tetri ($0.058) for Telasi subscribers, consuming up to 100 kWh and from 16 Tetri to 12.46 Tetri ($0.076) for those consuming 100-300 kWh.
The payment will decrease from 12.98 Tetri to 9.44 Tetri ($ 0.057) for Energo Pro subscribers, consuming up to 100 kWh and from 16.52 Tetri to 12.98 Tetri ($0.078) for those consuming 100-300 kWh.
According to a statement posted on the website of the Georgian Energy Ministry, despite the fact that the memorandums are temporary, the electricity tariffs will not increase in the country in the coming years.
"Regarding the tariffs, they have been finally fixed and will not increase over the next few years," the ministry stressed.
