In case of a final decision on the acquisition of the Oka brand carriages produced by Transmashholding CJSC, Baku Metro will purchase five of this brand, chief engineer of Baku Metro Fuad Taghizadeh said.
As Taghizadeh said, the testing of five carriages of the 81-760/761 series is currently being carried out on the Baku Metro lines (the testing began in January this year).
"The carriages are currently being tested and adapted to our conditions. Only five new carriages will be acquired following testing,"Taghizadeh said.Referring to the complete renewal of rolling stock, the chief engineer said that this issue is not on the agenda at the moment and the renewal of carriages will be considered in future.
The new carriages are equipped with climate control and air disinfection, as well as heating systems for passenger and driver cabins.
At present, the length of Baku Metro lines is 34.6 kilometres and now has two lines. In future the number of subway lines is planned to be increased to five, the length up to 119 kilometres and the number of stations up to 76.
The metro has been operating since 1967 and has 23 stations. A 20-year programme for the development of the metro was adopted earlier.
