Iran imported over 13 million tons of cereals worth some $5.6 billion in the first eleven months of the previous Iranian calendar year (March 21, 2012 - February 18, 2012).

The amount shows a 140-percent increase compared to the same period of time its preceding year, the ILNA News Agency reported.

Wheat, corn, barley, and soybean press cake were the main imported items.

Iran's cereal production to date has been 10 per cent more than the previous year, Iranian Agriculture Jihad Minister Sadeq Khalilian said on December 19. He went on to note that Iran is registering a new record in the agriculture products output this year.
