According to preliminary estimates, some $5 billion is required for implementation of projects for the creation and reconstruction of the water supply systems in Azerbaijan.

This was stated on Friday by the Deputy Prime Minister Abid Sharifov during a speech at the Caspian International Aqua Technologies Exhibition and Forum in Baku.

"The works are planned to be undertaken both through the budget funds and loans from international financial institutions (IFIs). MFI has already allocated funds of $1.8 billion. Nearly $1 billion is being allocated annually from the state budget for the activities of Azersu," Sharifov said.

According to him, the work is being carried out in 38 cities, 21 of which are funds raised from international financial organisations.

"Last year, work was completed in two cities. This year, we expect completion in nine cities. Another major project and commissioning of the reservoir in Takhtakorpu are also scheduled for 2013. The project cost is $1.4 billion," Sharifov said.
