Turkey's tourism revenues increase by almost 40 percent in first quarter

Turkey's tourism revenues increased by 39.6 percent reaching $ 4.9 billion in the first quarter of 2013 compared to the same period in 2012, a report of the Turkish Statistics Institute said today.

According to the information, around 72.5 percent of income was received from foreign tourists, 27.5 percent - from local tourists. During this period, expenses per tourist amounted to an average of $982 in Turkey.

The number of tourists during the period increased by 18.7 percent to 5.8 million people.

Turkey's tourism expenditures in Turkey during the first three months of 2013 increased by 38.5 percent, reaching $ 1.2 billion.

Some 1.6 million Turkish citizens traveled abroad for tourism purposes in the first quarter of 2013. According to the report, they spent an average of $726 per person.
