Unemployment rate in Turkey hits 10.5 per cent

In February 2013, the unemployment rate in Turkey totalled 10.5 per cent, or 1.5 per cent more than the same month in 2012, according to a report by the Turkish Statistical Institute published on its website on Thursday.

According to the report, unemployment in the Turkish cities was at 12 per cent, whereas in rural areas it stood at 7.3 per cent. By the end of February, some 2.8 million people in Turkey were officially listed as unemployed.

During that month, 120,000 people were provided with jobs in Turkey, or 14 per cent more than in February last year.

The report states that the number of illegal workers in February fell by 1.1 per cent compared to the same period in 2012.
