Industrial production in Azerbaijan increases by 10 percent

In January - April 2013, the total volume of industrial production (the amount of goods produced and industrial services) in Azerbaijan amounted to 11.3 billion manat, or 0.7 percent less than in 2012, the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan reported on Thursday.

"The volume of production in the non-oil sector grew by 2.8 percent, while the oil sector declined by 1.5 percent," the report says.

According to the report, in January-April 2013, there was a high increase in the production of motor vehicles and trailers (14.3 times), printing (twice), manufacture of other transport equipment (71.9 percent), pharmaceutical products (69.9 percent) and other areas.

During the reporting period, the volume of production in the mining industry was 8.4 billion manat with weight of 74.2 percent over the entire industrial production, which is 2.3 percent less than the same period last year. Oil production in January-April of this year stood at 14.3 million tons and the production of marketable natural gas - 5.9 billion cubic meters, which is a decrease relative to the same period in 2012 by 3.2 and 1.3 percent respectively.

The volume of manufacturing production in January-April amounted to 2.18 billion manat with weight of 19.3 percent, or 10.2 percent more than the same period last year. Manufacturing, distribution of electricity, gas and its supply fell by 0.2 percent, whereas water supply, treatment and recycling of waste increased by 7.5 percent.

The official exchange rate on May 16 is 0.7846 AZN / USD.
