"Alstom Transport" has unveiled two innovative designs for metro transport systems; the Axonis metro system and Urbalis Fluence. This took place during the 60th UITP World Congress and Exhibition on Urban Transport Mobility & City Transport Exhibition-2013.

Axonis is an openly integrated metro system, capable of carrying up to 45,000 passengers per hour both ways. Its technology can be adapted to any environment and can also be used on overpasses.

"Alstom Transport's" President Henri Poupart-Lafarge said that Axonis system is the perfect metro system for growing cities.

"The system is applicable to any urban transport environment," he said at a press conference. "It is efficient both on the ground and underground. It is also highly economical to build, operate and maintain. Energy costs are predicted to drop by 35 percent."

"Innovation is the basis of our strategy," he said. "These groundbreaking solutions will further strengthen our cooperative role with urban governments helping to solve modern urban planning issues such as traffick congestion, pollution and limited public budgets."

The system's trains will have between 2 and 5 cars and will be able to travel at a speed of 80 kilometers per hour on a 6-per-cent inclined plane. Carriages will also be accessible on both sides in case of emergency.

The Axonis system has been designed for densily populated cities without a subway network that want to expand their existing metropolitan system.

The system will be on the market by the end of 2013.

Urbalis Fluence is the first signaling mechanism for trains that allows for direct communication between locomotives. It will allow for a one-minute decrease in time between trains.

Urbalis Fluence will be installed on the first line of Lille Metropole City Association in France by 2015.

Urbalis Fluence is also the first communication train control system (CTCS) that is entirely focused on locomotives. Such a system is effectively integrated into the train for the first time.

This optimal designs reduces the volume of equipment up to 20 percent, and eliminates the need for traditional division into the automatic train control system and subsystem blocking.

Using the direct communication between trains in the Urbalis Fluence system is also an innovation. The system creates a higher throughput with fewer trains. The traffic congestion is reduced due to the system, waiting time is also reduced. The trip is more convenient as passengers arrive at the destination faster.

The system can be installed on standard or overland metro lines, metro-tram and automated light rail transport systems. Urbalis Fluence system ensures efficiency required in a large passenger flow, exceeding one million passengers per day and about 10,000 passengers a day in small passenger flows.

It is used for manual and automatic train control in both new and existing lines. Construction takes less than 24 months.
