Iran implementing $3.5 billion worth of water-related projects overseas

Iran is implementing water-related projects, worth $3.5 billion, in other countries, the Mehr News Agency quoted Iranian deputy energy minister Alireza Daemi as saying.

The value of such projects was about $920 million eight years ago (before the start of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's administration), he said.

Some other projects, worth about $2.69 billion, are being negotiated and will be likely implemented, he added.

In April, Esmaeil Mahsouli, another deputy energy minister of Iran said that Iran has invested $1.453 billion to complete 213 projects in the power sector in other countries. Some 45 Iranian companies have launched water and power projects in 40 countries mainly in Central Asia, Middle East, Latin America and Africa.

Iran has reached self sufficiency in producing equipments for the domestic power electricity industry. The country has signed a couple of technical and engineering projects in recent years in the fields of energy in several Asian and African countries. Iran aims to export $4.5 billion worth of technical and engineering services in the current calendar year, which began on March 21.
