Iranian private sector’s steel production nears 2 mln tons

Iran's private sector produced 1.952 million tons of steel in the first five months of the current Iranian calendar year, which started on March 21, the ISNA News Agency reported.

The private sector's steel output stood at 412,800 tons in the fifth calendar month (July 22 - August 21).

Iran produced 1.292 million tons of crude steel in August 2013, the World Steel Association said in its latest press release.

The figure shows over 13 percent increase compared to the same month of the previous year.

The country's total output in the first half of 2013 amounted to 9.955 million tons.

World crude steel production for the 64 countries reporting to the WSA was 130.352 million tons in August, 5.2 percent more compared to August 2013.

World crude steel production in the first six months of 2013 was 1.05 billion tons, an increase of 2.3 percent compared to the same period of 2012.

Iran's crude steel production reached 14.89 million tons in the previous Iranian calendar year, which ended on March 20.

Iran plans to increase its annual steel output to 55 million tons by the end of the Fifth Five-Year Development Plan (2015).
