Goods worth $9 million exported from Iran to Azerbaijan over six months

In the first six months of Iranian current calendar year, started March 21, goods worth $9 million were exported from Iran to Azerbaijan through suitcase trade, head of Iran's Astara city customs Jahangir Bakhshi said on Monday, ISNA agency reported.

Iran exported 6000 tons of goods to Azerbaijan in the first six months of the current year, Bakhshi said.

According to him, Iran and Azerbaijan mainly carry out suitcase trade and the majority of goods are transported to Azerbaijan by tourists.

During this period some 341,723 tourists used the Astara border checkpoint to cross the border, Bakhhi said.

He added that plastic and glass containers, ceramics, fruits and vegetables are the main goods exported from Iran to Azerbaijan.

It should be stressed that goods worth $7,540,000 (4920 tons) were transported from Iran to Azerbaijan through portfolio trade in the first five months of the current solar year.

During this period some 276,890 tourists used Astara border checkpoint to cross the border.
