Some of Iranian carmakers have suspended the production of trucks, so that the overall production of trucks in the country has decreased by 43.2 per cent, ISNA reported.

The number of trucks manufactured in the sixth calendar month of Shahrivar (ended on September 22) hit 735, compared to 1,295 in the same period of the previous year.

Earlier this month, ISNA reported that Iran's pickup truck production has increased by 47.9 per cent during the sixth Iranian calendar month compared to the same month of the last solar year (ended on March 21).

According to the report, Iranian car manufacturers have produced some 9,032 pickups during this period, while this figure stood at 6,105 during the same month of the previous year.

Iranian Khodro Company which has the main share of the production has produced some 5,388 pickups during this period.

The figure shows an increase of 72.5 per cent compared to the same period of the last solar year.

Iran produced around 989,110 cars in 2012, making it Asia's eighth and the world's eighteenth largest car manufacturer. Iran's automobile output faced a 40 per cent decrease in 2012. The country was Asia's fifth largest car manufacturer in 2011 with a total output of 1,648,505.
