Unemployment in Turkey increased by 0.8 percent in the first nine months of 2013 compared to the same period of 2012 and amounted to 9.9 percent, the Turkish Statistics Institute (TUIK) said on Dec.16.
Currently, the number of unemployed amounts to 2.832 million people in Turkey, according to the Turkish Statistics Institute.
Unemployment hit 9.8 per cent in Turkey in August. This figure exceeds the unemployment level in the country for the same month of 2012 by one per cent, the Turkish Statistics Institute's report said earlier.
The number of unemployed in Turkey amounted to 2.455 million people in August 2012, while about 2.806 million people were registered in August 2013, according to the report.
The report said that in total, unemployment in Turkey's non-agricultural sector amounts to 12.3 per cent while unemployment among youth is 18.7 per cent.
Some 93 percent of employed people are working in the private sector and seven percent in the public sector, according to the report.
