The unemployment rate stood at 10.6 percent in Iran in the first quarter of previous Iranian calendar year (March 21, 2013 - June 21, 2013), the country's Central Bank said on June 22.

The country's unemployment rate at urban areas stood at 12.2 percent in the mentioned period, while its rural unemployment rate hit 6.6 percent, Iran's TASNIM news agency reported.

The unemployment rate among men and women was around 8.8 and 18.7 percent, respectively.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani earlier said that job creation is the most significant issue in the future of the country's economy, while the combination of inflation and stagnation is now the most important problem.

"Tackling high inflation and unemployment are top priorities of the government," Rouhani said before presenting the Iranian parliament (Majlis) the first budget plan of his government.

Some 20.3 percent of young people between the ages of 15 to 29 were jobless in Iran in the mentioned three-month period.
