Turkmenistan's GDP increases significantly since beginning of year

The growth rate of gross domestic product (GDP) in Turkmenistan has increased by 110.3 percent during January-June 2014, the Turkmen government said.

The growth rate of gross domestic product (GDP) in Turkmenistan has increased by 110.3 percent during January-June 2014, the Turkmen government said.

"A steady rise of GDP is being observed in accordance with the figures for the reported period. Compared to the same period in 2013, this indicator was ensured at the level of 110.3 percent. The share of the industrial sector in GDP accounted for 48.8 percent, construction - 16.1 percent, transport and communications sector - 5.8 percent, agriculture - 5.4 percent, trade - 7.5 percent, services - 16.4 percent," the government's report said.

As regard to the implementation of the planned figure characterizing the volume of acquired investments at the expense of all sources of funding, it was reported that, in accordance with the same period in 2013 its growth rate reached 108.3 percent.

Turkmenistan occupies a key position in the region on natural gas supplies - importers are Russia, China, Iran.

The dynamic of Turkmenistan's GDP growth in general confirms the expectations of the international financial institutions. International Monetary Fund (IMF) indicated in its prognosis that economic growth will reach 10.7 percent in Turkmenistan this year. The UN predicts GDP growth of Turkmenistan at the level of 9.5 percent in 2014. In 2013, Turkmenistan`s GDP grew by 10.2 percent according to official statistics.
