Kazakhstan slightly decreases industrial output in first half of 2014

Kazakhstan decreased industrial output by 0.4 percent in January-June 2014 compared to the same period of 2013 to almost 9.204 trillion tenge (183.52 tenge = $1), Kazakh Statistics Agency reported on July 14.

Mining and quarrying production decreased by 0.6 percent, manufacturing production by 0.3 percent, production in water supply, sewerage system and waste disposal by 4.4 percent. Meanwhile, production in electricity, gas and steam supply, and air conditioning increased 1.6 percent.

The volume of gross output in agriculture increased by 3.3 percent in January-June 2014 to 558.7 billion tenge.

The volume index for transport sector hit 107 percent in the reporting period.

The freight turnover in January-June 2014 remained at 219.5 billion tonne-kilometers including the turnover of individual entrepreneurs involved in commercial transportation as it was in the same period of 2013.

The passenger turnover increased 7.2 percent to 118 billion passenger-kilometers in this period.

The volume index for communication hit 109.3 percent, for trade - 109.5 percent in January-June 2014.

The retail trade volume increased 11.8 percent to 2.620 trillion tenge, excluding catering, in the reporting period.

The volume of wholesale trade increased 8.5 percent to 6.953 trillion tenge.

The volume of services on food and beverages supply decreased 3.3 percent to 111 billion tenge.

Kazakhstan's foreign trade turnover decreased 2.7 percent to $50.935 billion including $35.462 billion of Kazakh export (3 percent increase) and $15.473 billion of Kazakh import (13.6 percent decrease) in the first half of 2014.

The food prices increased 5.5 percent, non-food prices 4.7 percent, and paid services 4 percent since the beginning of the year. Prices for industrial products increased 14 percent.

The nominal income per capita increased by 10.8 percent in May 2014 compared to May 2013 to 61,480 tenge.

Average monthly nominal wage increased by 13.4 percent to 120,479 tenge.
