The Azerbaijani government will continue cooperating with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Azerbaijani Agriculture Minister Heydar Asadov said at the IFAD workshop in Baku Oct. 23.
"The main goal of economic development in Azerbaijan is to develop the non-oil sector, including agriculture," he said. "Examining the international experience and using the advanced knowledge by holding these workshops are important to ensure its development and to determine a strategy in this area."
"The long-term cooperation with IFAD is observed to develop knowledge and skills in this area," he said. "This organization has been operating in Azerbaijan for 17 years. It plays an important role in resolving the issues related to food security, poverty reduction and the creation of rural infrastructure, etc. Around $15.8 billion were allocated through IFAD for the development of agriculture in the world for the last 15 years. This improved the social status of millions of citizens and generally played an important role in developing the sector. IFAD's investment portfolio for the period of activity was approximately $ 192 million."
