Construction of a plant for carbamide production in Azerbaijan will be completed by the end of 2016, the head of the Azerkimya Production Association of SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) Mukhtar Babayev told Trend.
Azerkimya is the main manufacturer of chemical products in Azerbaijan.
"Work is already under way," said Babayev. "It is planned to complete it in the fourth quarter of 2014, followed by a start-up operations."
Babayev previously said that the commissioning of the plant is expected in late 2016 - early 2017.
General contractor in Sumgait is Samsung Engineering.
At the plant, which will consist of the sectors producing ammonia, liquid and granular carbamide, it is planned to produce 2,000 metric tons of carbamide per day.
Considering the physical properties of carbamide, such as good water solubility and high nitrogen content, the use of carbamide as a fertilizer will give positive results. Thereby, one of the main goals will be fulfilled - not only to meet the demand for fertilizers in the republic, but also the transformation of Azerbaijan into one of the main suppliers of carbamide in the region. A part of carbamide produced at the plant will be supplied to countries in the region and on the world market via the Black Sea.
The new plant will be located on the Azerkimya Production Association payable area.
Funds in the amount of about 500 million euros (excluding taxes) for the construction of the plant were allocated from the state budget, as its construction is provided by the State program on providing the population with provisions in 2008-2015.
