Estonian Muuga port on the Baltic Sea is ready to provide land to Kazakh companies for the construction of their own the terminal, the Business Manager of the Port Margus Sitsi told Trend.
"Everything depends on the willingness of each company," said Margus Sitsi. "It can use our power or build its own terminal on our territory."
He said that the Kazakh coal transshipment volume through Muuga port may amount to 200,000-250,000 metric tons on the results of the current year.
"Transshipment volume of the Kazakh coal this year through our port can reach 200,000-250,000 metric tons, although our design capabilities for handling this type of product amount to almost 8 million metric tons," said Margus Sitsi. "So, as you can see, 200,000-250,000 metric tons is a minuscule of our opportunities."
He said that in the current year and in the last seven years, the transshipment volume of Kazakh grain through Muuga port amounted to zero.
"Unfortunately, last time Kazakh grain was handled in our port in 2006," said Margus Sitsi. "Then the volume of transshipment of Kazakh grain was less than 1 million metric tons, although our capacities amount to 3.5 million metric tons."
Port Muuga is competing with the ports of other countries in the Baltic Sea, including the Estonian Sillamae, he said.
"Our advantage is a well-developed infrastructure and high power, fast speed of loading and unloading, it doesn't require more than a day," he said.
