The newly appointed Ambassador of Uzbekistan to the Republic of Korea, Botirjon Asadov left Tashkent to take up his position in Seoul, the Foreign Ministry of Uzbekistan said March 5.

Earlier, he worked as an advisor of the embassy of Uzbekistan in the Peoples Republic of China.

It was previously reported that the former ambassador of Uzbekistan to South Korea was appointed Deputy Foreign Minister in July 2014 upon President Karimov's decree. He has been appointed First Deputy Foreign Minister since September 15, 2014.

South Korea is one of the largest trade partners of Uzbekistan. As of 2013, the bilateral trade turnover amounted to $2.12 billion. The total volume of investments attracted to the economy of Uzbekistan from the Republic of Korea exceeded $6 billion during the years of independence.

At present, around 412 enterprises operate in Uzbekistan. They were established in partnership with South Korean businessmen. More than 80 companies have their representative offices. They operate in such areas as trade, textile and light industries, mining and metallurgy, chemical and food industries, machinery construction, metal processing, tourism, health care, transportation services.
