Turkish Cargo, a brand of Turkish Airlines, intends to increase the number of its cargo planes to 400, said Burak Omeroglu, the carrier's regional director for Eastern Europe and Russia.

He made the remarks Oct. 6 at the 6th Caspian Air Cargo Summit held in Baku.

He said that currently, Turkish Cargo's fleet consists of 300 aircraft.

"We intend to expand it by a further 100 units, as we want to extend the volume of our transportations taking into account the construction of a new [the third] airport in Istanbul," said Omeroglu.

Meanwhile, as he said, the world is witnessing a decline in freight volumes due to the economic crisis.

"The decline in prices for oil, and consequently for fuel, creates certain balance in this situation - something that doesn't let to suffer too large losses," Omeroglu said.
