Religious extremist organization members detained in Tashkent

A criminal activity of the members of the banned religious extremist organization "Hizb-ut-Tahrir" was prevented in Tashkent, the Uzbek interior ministry said.

"Some 16 active supporters of the organization were detained," the statement said. "They were involved in spreading the Hizb-ut-Tahrir ideology among residents of Tashkent and the region."

"According to the information, some detainees were under the influence of the Hizb-ut-Tahrir ideology outside the country," the statement said. "After returning, they spread this ideology among their wives and minor children."

The extremist books were found at their houses.

Currently, the Main Investigation Department of the Uzbek Interior Ministry conducts a preliminary investigation.
