Azerbaijan decreases import by quarter

The Azerbaijani State Customs Committee announced a 34.3 percent decrease in the volume of foreign trade operations in January-April 2016 compared to the same period of 2015, the committee said May 17.

The volume of foreign trade operations reached $5.04 billion.

Azerbaijan's foreign trade partners for this period numbered 152 countries.

The negative balance worth $144.39 million was formed in foreign trade operations during this period.

Foreign trade surplus hit $867.19 million in January-April 2015.

Around 6,237 legal and physical entities were involved in foreign economic activities during this period, 3,189 being legal entities and 3,048 physical entities, according to the report.

Exports reached $2.45 billion, decreasing by 42.63 percent for a year.

The public sector share in export operations was estimated at $2.16 billion, the private sector share -$250.84 million and physical entities' share- $41.01 million.

Imports hit $2.59 billion, which is 23.85 percent less compared to January-April 2015.

The public sector share in import operations hit $378.15 million, private sector share- $2.08 billion and physical entities share - $137.96 million.

Around 1,503 kinds of goods were exported from Azerbaijan and 5,931 imported to Azerbaijan in January-April 2016.
