Azerbaijan, Turkey increase turnover

Turkey still ranked first in the list of Azerbaijan’s foreign trade partners in January-October 2016 with a trade turnover of $1.8 billion, which makes 12.91 percent of Azerbaijan’s total foreign trade, said a report of Azerbaijan’s State Customs Committee.

The trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Turkey increased by 63.6 percent for the year.

Previously, Italy ranked first in the list of Azerbaijan’s foreign trade partners for more than three years, except for February 2015, when the US was the leader.

As of October 2016, Italy dropped into the second place with a turnover of $1.58 billion (11.16 percent), followed by Russia - $1.5 billion (10.87 percent), Germany - $838.2 million (5.92 percent) and China - $711.7 million (5.03 percent), the report said.

In general, the trade turnover with Italy decreased by 33.6 percent in January-October 2016 compared to the same period of 2015.

The share of those countries in Azerbaijan’s total trade turnover is 45.89 percent.

Italy remains the main country importing Azerbaijani goods - $1.3 billion (18.15 percent).

Among the main countries, exporting goods from Azerbaijan, are Turkey ($872.5 million with a share of 12.12 percent), Taiwan ($616.9 million or 8.57 percent), Germany ($513.4 million or 7.13 percent) and Israel ($457.8 million or 6.36 percent), the report said.

The share of those countries in Azerbaijan’s total export is 52.33 percent.

Azerbaijan imported most of goods from Russia ($1.23 billion), which is 17.75 percent of Azerbaijani imports in January-October 2016, followed by Turkey - $954.4 million (13.72 percent), China - $562.4 million (8.08 percent), the UK - $429.85 million (6.18 percent) and the US - $401.26 million (5.77 percent), the report said.

The share of those countries in Azerbaijan’s total import is 51.5 percent.

Azerbaijan’s foreign trade turnover with 174 countries totaled $14.15 billion in January-October 2016, which is 23.22 percent less than in January-October 2015. Azerbaijan carried out export operations in the amount of $7.2 billion, while import operations – almost $7 billion, the report said.
