Net inflow of direct foreign investment to Kazakhstan reached the record level of $14.4 billion in 2016, the Kazakh National Bank said in a message Mar. 31.
The previous record was in 2008 when the net direct investment inflow to Kazakhstan was at $13.1 billion.
“The record inflow of foreign direct investment in 2016 was the main source for financing Kazakhstan's balance of payments,” the bank said.
Gross inflow of foreign direct investment increased 40 percent compared to 2015 and amounted to $20.6 billion in 2017.
The foreign direct investments mainly went to mining industry, geological explorations, and manufacturing industry.
