As of July 1, 2017, some 36,300 people were officially registered as unemployed in Azerbaijan, including 37.3 percent women, the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee’s report as of January-June 2017 said.
According to the report, the number of unemployed increased by 5.2 percent in the country in January-June 2017 compared to January-June 2016.
The average monthly unemployment benefit is 258.3 manat in Azerbaijan in January-June 2017.

As of July 1, 2017, the economically active population reached 5.04 million people.
As of July 1, 2017, almost 1.53 million people accounted for hired workers, including 886,400 people - in the public sector and 638,800 people - in the private sector. Thus, 34,100 people accounted for those working in the oil sector, while more than 1.49 million people - in the non-oil sector.
Among hired workers 22.8 percent accounted for those working in the production spheres, including 6.6 percent in processing industry, 7.1 percent - in construction, 3.1 percent - in agriculture, forestry and fishery, 2.2 percent - in the extractive industry, 2.1 percent - in water supply, waste treatment and processing, 1.7 percent - in the production and distribution of electricity, gas and steam.
Around 21.9 percent account for the hired workers involved in education, 19 percent - trade, repair of vehicles, 8.6 percent - medical and social services, 7.1 percent in state governance and defense, social maintenance, 4.7 percent - transportation and warehousing, 3.8 percent - recreation, entertainment and arts, 3.5 percent – professional, scientific and technical activities, 1.6 percent - financial and insurance activities, 1.6 percent – communication and information, 1.6 percent – administrative and additional services, 1.5 percent – tourist accommodation and catering, 1.3 percent - real estate transactions, 1 percent - other areas.
