The work has begun to establish the production of domestic locomotives in Turkey, country’s media cited Ilhan Kocaarslan, director general of the Associated Company of the Turkish Carriage Industry (TUVASAS).
According to reports, a tender will be announced in the coming months.
The project, envisaging the locomotive production, is being implemented under the guidance of the Turkish Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications.
First announcement about localization of locomotive production in Turkey came in December 2013. The deployment of the first locally produced rolling stock is planned for the end of 2018.
In the near future, Turkey intends to export its locally manufactured locomotives to the neighboring countries.
According to prognosis, 111 locomotives will be produced at the initial stage.
