Azerbaijan’s agriculture production up by almost 2%

The agricultural production volume in actual prices amounted to 4.4 billion manats in Azerbaijan in January-August 2017, which is by 1.7 percent more than in January-August 2016, according to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee’s report.

Livestock production increased by 2.5 percent, while crop production increased by 0.9 percent in the reporting period.

In August, harvesting of agricultural products continued in Azerbaijan. Thus, during the reporting period, almost 2.7 million tons of crops and grain legumes were harvested from an area of ​​935,500 hectares in Azerbaijan (99.4 percent of the total sown area). The average yield was 28.6 centners per hectare.

As of Sept. 1, 707,500 tons of potatoes (a 3.7 percent decrease during the year), 1,057,600 tons of vegetables (a 7.3 percent increase), 400,800 tons of melons and gourds (a 7.9 percent decrease), 359,300 tons of fruit and berries (a 1.1 percent increase), 37,700 tons of grapes (a 9.3 percent increase), 506.5 tons of green tea (a 31.4 percent decrease), 465.5 tons of cotton (a 7 times increase), 61,800 tons of beetroot (a 71.6 times increase), 27,900 tons of sunflower (a 2 times increase) and 2,900 tons of tobacco (a 13.3 percent increase) were harvested.

In January-August 2017, Azerbaijan produced 312,600 tons of meat in live weight, 1.35 million tons of milk, 1.15 billion eggs and 15,400 tons of wool. As compared to January-August 2016, production of meat increased by 2.4 percent, milk - by 1.3 percent, eggs - by 7.6 percent, while wool production decreased by 3.5 percent. Besides, 245.2 tons of cocoons were produced in the country during the reporting period.
