By Anvar Mammadov – Trend:
Quality of Azerbaijani raw cotton meets the requirements of the local textile industry, Mehriban Akhundova, chairperson of the country’s Textile Producers and Exporters Association, told Trend.
“Azerbaijani cotton is medium-fiber and somewhat inferior to Turkmen, Egyptian and Uzbek ones, which are fine-stapled,” said Akhundova. “However, Azerbaijani cotton is completely suitable for the production of fabrics, knitted goods, coarse calico and sewing of linen.”
Akhundova said that in 2017, the quality of the cotton crop increased significantly compared to last year.
“Preliminary results for the harvest of 2017 show that the state program of support for cotton growing influences both the volume of harvest and the quality of raw materials,” she noted. “This year innovative methods were introduced and new varieties of cotton were used. It is too early to talk about this, but the preliminary indicators allow making forecast on a three-times increase of the cotton yield. The quality of raw materials significantly increased as well.”
Azerbaijan’s Textile Producers and Exporters Association was established July 2017 on the initiative of entrepreneurs operating in this sphere.
