EBRD to boost efforts for SME financing in Uzbekistan

EBRD plans to establish a systematic cooperation with the commercial banks in Uzbekistan in an effort to develop small and medium entrepreneurship (SME) through rendering them with financial assistance.

EBRD Managing Director for Central Asia and Russia Natalya Khanjenkova made the statement at a workshop “EBRD Mechanisms for Cooperation with SME” organized by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan in Navoi free economic zone.

“This is an important factor for upgrade of local business subjects and their entry into the world market,” she said.

Uzbekistan attaches importance to development of SME, consolidation of cooperation with international financial organizations, and attracting foreign investments. During its overall cooperation with the EBRD the country attracted over $500 million to different spheres of economy to implement 54 projects.

During the workshop the entrepreneurs were provided with additional innovations that the bank offers for entrepreneurs.
