By Huseyn Hasanov – Trend:

Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs held talks with Hisham Taleb Maarouf, acting director of the Islamic Development Bank’s (IDB) regional office for Central Asia, said the ministry in a message.

During the meeting, the parties expressed commitment to further consolidate efforts, according to the ministry.

Expressing hope for fruitful cooperation on the reconstruction of neighboring Afghanistan, as well as sustainable development in the Central Asian region, the sides exchanged views on the issues of regional agenda. The two sides cooperate as part of the work program for Turkmenistan for the period of 2016-2018.

“Noting the aspects of cooperation in the transportation and communications field and support for small and medium-sized businesses, the parties made a brief overview of the joint work for this period,” says the message.

The IDB issued a loan for Turkmenistan in 2016 to finance the construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline.

An agreement worth $700 million was signed with the State Bank for Foreign Economic Affairs of Turkmenistan. In June 2015, it was reported that Turkmenistan and IDB are discussing the possibilities for the bank’s participation in financing eight projects that are envisaged for implementation in the transport and communications sector and for supporting small and medium-sized businesses.
