Turkish contractors implementing projects worth over $10B in Qatar

Turkish contractors are implementing projects worth $11.6 billion in Qatar, the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) told Trend Jan. 4.

TOBB said that 2022 FIFA World Cup, which will be held in Qatar, as well as the program on economic development, “Qatar National Vision 2030”, open new opportunities for Turkish contractors.

A delegation of Turkish entrepreneurs will visit Qatar on Jan. 15-17, 2018, to discuss new joint projects, as well as for putting investments, according to the TOBB.

“Meanwhile, the Qatar-Turkey business forum will be held in Qatar on Jan. 15-17, 2018,” said the Union.

Qatar is interested in increasing Turkish investments, said the TOBB.

According to the results of eight months of 2017, 121 companies from Qatar operate in Turkey with a total capital of five billion Turkish liras.

Currently, Qatar ranks 19th among countries which put direct investments in the economy of Turkey.

During the eight months of 2017, trade turnover between the two countries amounted to $634 million.

According to the Central Bank of Turkey, investments put in the Turkish economy increased by 50.1 percent in six months of 2017 as compared to the same period of 2016, and totaled $4.108 billion.

During the period, direct investments of Qatar in Turkey amounted to $541 million.

About 68 percent of foreign direct investments put in the Turkish economy accounts for the share of European states. Spain ranks first among the European states that put direct investments in the economy of Turkey.
