Share of foreign currency in Uzbekistan’s money supply increasing

Total volume of money supply increased by 40.2 percent and reached 73.2 trillion soums in Uzbekistan in January-December 2017 as compared to the growth of 23.5 percent in the same period of 2016, the country’s Central Bank told Trend.

The money supply in the national currency increased by 9.3 percent up to 47.52 trillion soums in the reporting period, as well as the money supply in cashless form decreased by 7.8 percent to 28.07 trillion soums, cash money supply – increased by 49.2 percent up to 19.45 trillion soums.

An increase of 20, 18.8 and 24 percent was recorded respectively on the three abovementioned indicators.

Meanwhile, the money supply in foreign currency deposited on the accounts of financial and credit institutions rose by 2.9 times in 2017 and reached 25.7 trillion soums in the national currency equivalent as compared to the growth of 44.3 percent in 2016, added the bank.
