Uzbekistan to supply yarn to Bangladesh

Uzbekistan and Bangladesh agreed on the supply of yarn worth $ 5 million to Bangladesh, Uzbek media reported.

Textile workers of Uzbekistan signed a contract during the visit of the Uzbek delegation to Bangladesh on Jan. 24-27. The Uzbek delegation included representatives of textile enterprises of the Association Uztekstilprom.

The visit was aimed at studying experience of Bangladesh in the development of textile and clothing and knitting industries and attend the exhibition Yarn and Fabrics Fair 2018.

The delegation held meetings with representatives of the textile industry of Bangladesh, and discussed issues of trade and economic cooperation and outlined areas for cooperation at a new stage. The delegation also visited the company Turag Knit Composite Ltd, which is included in the top 20 enterprises of Bangladesh, specializing in the production of ready-made garments and knitwear. Products for European markets are produced here.

Light industry enterprises of Uzbekistan, according to preliminary data, exported products for $1.1 billion in 2017.

To date, about 7,000 enterprises of the light industry are operating, cotton-fiber production capacity of 1.4 million tons has been created, of which about 60 percent is used to meet the needs of domestic textile enterprises.

Over the past ten years, the industry has maintained a steady growth rate, the production of textiles increased 4.3 times, the volume of its exports - almost 4 times.

The annual capacity of Uzbekistan's light industry enterprises is about 440,000 tons of yarn, 290 million square meters of cotton fabrics, 90,000 tons of knitted fabric, 255 million pieces of knitted garments, 53 million pairs of hosiery and 2,400 tons of cotton- raw.
