Uzbekistan and Russia considered issue of increasing agriculture supplies during a meeting with Deputy Agriculture Minister of the Russian Federation Sergey Levin at the Uzbek Foreign Trade Ministry, the ministry said in a message on Feb.7.
Levin noted that the high-level meetings held in April 2017 gave new impetus to the multifaceted cooperation between Uzbekistan and the Russian Federation, including in the field of agriculture.
The sides discussed issues of further expanding trade and economic cooperation, including through organizing long-term supplies of fresh and processed fruit and vegetable to the Russian market within the framework of the "green corridor" created between the two countries.
They noted a potential of increasing the export volumes of Uzbek fruit and vegetable supplies by 2-3 times.
To date over 900 enterprises with the participation of Russian capital operate in Uzbekistan, and there are about 600 Uzbek economic entities in the Russian Federation.
The trade turnover between Russia and Uzbekistan from January to October 2017 amounted to $28 billion. The trade turnover increased by 25 percent compared to the same period last year. In physical terms, the volume of trade increased by 6.3 percent - from 3.6 million tons to 3.8 million tons.
Earlier it was reported that Uzbekistan intends to double the production of vegetables and fruits up to 32 million tons until the end of 2020.
Uzbekistan increased export of fruit and vegetable and processed products by 15.6 percent in 2017 up to $ 708.8 million. Of the total volume, 46.4 percent accounts for the share of Kazakhstan and Russia - 18 percent.
