Uzbekistan , Kyrgyzstan to eye expanding economic cooperation

Uzbek Foreign Trade Minister Jamshid Khodjaev, will pay an official visit to Kyrgyzstan on Feb. 8-9, 2018, the ministry said in a message on Feb.8.

The visit aims at considering the issues of further building up bilateral trade and economic cooperation.

The visit stipulates holding of intergovernmental negotiations and meetings between representatives of the private sector of both sides, organization of visits to enterprises, as well as a number of other activities aimed at accelerating the implementation of joint projects and trade contracts.

Furthermore, the minister will get acquainted with the work of enterprises in the Sokuluk and Issyk-Ata districts of the Chui oblast.

According to the Foreign Trade Ministry of Uzbekistan, in 2017 the trade turnover between the two countries increased by more than $ 86 million up to $ 253.9 million. Uzbekistan mainly exports natural gas, textile, as well as fresh and processed fruit and vegetable products to Kyrgyzstan.

The parties intend to increase the turnover to $500 million.

Earlier it was reported that Uzbekistan will open nine enterprises in Kyrgyzstan for car maintenance, assembly of agricultural machinery, production of plastic parts, as well as other production.
