Turkmenistan taking measures to rationally use land, water resources

Under the instruction of Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, measures are being taken in the country to rationally use land and water resources, increase land fertility through the use of best practices, the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reported.

At this stage, vegetative watering, mineral fertilization of soil and other agrotechnical measures are carried out on wheat-sown fields, according to the report by Turkmen Deputy Prime Minister Esenmyrat Orazgeldiyev presented during the government session. Along with this, the preparation of farmland, machinery and seeds for cotton sowing continues, the report noted.

Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov demanded to take all measures to conduct spring agricultural campaigns in the best possible time.

At the same time, special emphasis was placed on the need to ensure strict control over observance of all agrotechnical norms in agriculture, which is an important factor in obtaining abundant harvests of wheat and cotton, as well as other crops.

The Turkmen president gave specific instructions concerning the introduction of advanced scientific achievements and new resource-saving technologies in the agricultural industry.

The cotton sowing season starts in Turkmenistan on March 23. Cotton makes up a major part of Turkmenistan’s exports and is a sought-after raw material for dozens of modern enterprises of the dynamically developing textile industry in the country.

The total area of cultivated land is more than 500,000 hectares.
