Belarus is planning to produce 1.2 million tons of potato, 629,000 tons of vegetables and 118,000 tons of fruits, part of which will be exported to Uzbekistan, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Provision of Belarus Vladimir Grakun said at a press conference.
“We will try to keep export to Russia at a level no lower than in 2017, at the same time increasing supply to other countries such as Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Georgia and China… If Russia needs more, we’ll be ready to supply the required volume,” Grakun said.
According to him, Belarus is planning to increase the agricultural production volume to be able to meet import requirements of Russia and expand the export geography.
The deputy minister noted that the export potential grew thanks to the state program on construction of silos which provide for almost year-round export.
He said that in 2017 Belarus exported more than 380,000 tons of potato, with the lion’s share falling to the Russian market.
Grakun underlined that potato export volume in 2017 exceeded figures of the previous years.
