Consumer goods prices in Uzbekistan down

Average prices for consumer goods in Uzbekistan decreased by 0.4 percent in March 2018, while in January and February 2018, the prices increased by 0.6 percent and 0.7 percent correspondingly, the press service of the Central Bank of Uzbekistan stated in its message.

According to the information, in the 1Q2018, onion prices fell by 46.4 percent, eggs - by 23.3 percent, sugar - by 10 percent, potatoes - by 6.2 percent, rice - by 4.2 percent, vegetable oil - by 3.2 percent, wheat flour - by 2.2 percent, carrots - by 1.8 percent. At the same time, meat prices increased by 1.1 percent.

Among non-food consumer goods, prices for clothing decreased by 4.9 percent, footwear - by 3.8 percent, TVs - by 7.8 percent, vacuum cleaners - by 4.4 percent and refrigerators - by 3.5 percent.

In the 1Q2017, prices for many of the aforementioned goods demonstrated growth dynamics.

Curbing inflationary processes and stabilizing price levels in the consumer sector of the economy was reasoned by stability of the Uzbek soum’s exchange rate and low growth of the money supply volume.

The exchange rate increased by 0.5 percent in 1Q2018, compared to the 10-percent decrease in 1Q2017.

The money supply volume has increased by 1 percent, compared to the 7.6 percent in the same period of 2017.
