The number of enterprises with Russian investments in Uzbekistan will exceed the 1,000 mark by the end of 2018, Sputnik Uzbekistan reported citing First Deputy Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan Islom Zhasimov addressing a press conference on the holding of the first international industrial exhibition Expo-Russia Uzbekistan 2018 in Tashkent.

According to him, Russia is one of the leading trade and economic partners of Uzbekistan today.

“The activity of the Uzbek-Russian business council was revived in 2017, and as of today, 961 enterprises with the participation of Russian capital are working in Uzbekistan. I think that we have broader prospects now. Uzbekistan and Russia have a great potential for further deepening of relations, and I think that the number of Russian enterprises in Uzbekistan will exceed 1,000 by the end of the year,” the deputy chairman of the CCI noted.

He also added that the Uzbek business actively manifests itself and opened 569 enterprises in Russia.

“We need to develop our regional relations and use all available opportunities. Over the past year, heads of many Uzbek regions have visited Russia, where the relevant business sites were organized. "Expo-Russia” is one of the links in that chain of relationships. Our countries have such a huge potential that we must use it. The upcoming exhibition is the evidence that Uzbekistan and Russia are striving for this,” Zhasimov said.

Uzbekistan is on the fourth place among the CIS countries in terms of commodity turnover with Russia. The trade turnover amounted to $3.6 billion and increased by 33.9 percent in 2017.

In January-February 2018, trade turnover increased by 50.2 percent and amounted to almost $600 million. Russian export grew by 59.7 percent, and import - by 28.1 percent. At the same time, the total volume of investments from Russia to Uzbekistan exceeded $8.5 billion.

Tashkent will host an exhibition of Russian commodity producers Expo-Russia Uzbekistan 2018 for the first time on April 25-27. Round tables, negotiations between companies and enterprises, signing of agreements and contracts are planned to be held during the event.
