Registration rate of new branches of foreign banks down in Turkey

In 1Q2018, 2,756 branches of foreign banks were registered in Turkey, which is 120 less than in the same quarter of 2017, the State Banking Supervision Authority of Turkey (BDDK) told Trend May 7.

The BDDK noted that the total number of employees of branches of foreign banks in 1Q2018 amounted to 55,280 people, which is 3,697 less than in the same quarter in 2017.

"In 1Q2018, the largest number of branches were registered by "Turkiye Garanti Bankasi A.S." (936 branches), which is 20 less than in the same quarter of 2017," the BDDK stated.

The state agency noted that in 1Q2018 the total number of employees of the branches of "Turkiye Garanti Bankasi A.S." amounted to 18,639 employees, which is 876 people less than in the same quarter of 2017.

"In 1Q2018, "Denizbank A.S." was on the second place for the number of registered branches. "Denizbank A.S." has 708 branches, which is 12 branches more than in the same quarter of 2017," - the state agency announced.

The BDDK noted that in 1Q2018 the number of employees in the branches of "Denizbank A.S" was 12,190 people, which is 594 people less compared to the same quarter in 2017.

As of January 2018, there were 52 banks in Turkey, of which 21 are functioning with participation of foreign capital.
