In January-March 2018, the volume of cargo transportation along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route amounted to 300,000 tons, an increase of 8 percent compared to the same period of 2017, Chairman of the Board of Kazakhstan Railways (KTZ) Company Kanat Alpysbayev told reporters May 8.

"We have launched a containerized cargo transportation service along the key China-Europe route. To date, 8,000 tons of containerized cargo has been transported and this is only the beginning," Alpysbayev said.

The Chairman of Board of the KTZ Company also noted that the participants of the route are working on ways to further increase the volume of cargo transportation.

"We also take into account the need to transport grain and legumes in the direction of the Caucasus region and Turkey. In this regard, we need to improve the work in the development of the necessary technologies. Transportation of grain mainly depends on the number and quality of ships, as well as transshipment capacities of ports," Alpysbayev said.

Trans-Caspian international transport route runs from China through Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia and further through Turkey or Ukraine to Europe.
