President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held a working meeting with the participation of Deputy Prime Ministers and heads of the regional administrations, the "Turkmen Dovlet Habarlary" State Agency (TDH) reported.

During the meeting, it was announced that the sowing of cotton is being completed in Turkmenistan. The sowing campaign started in late March.

The head of state emphasized the necessity of timely fulfillment of all planned measures on care of the obtained seedlings.

Some 545,000 hectares of land were allocated for cotton. In total, 1.050 million tons of cotton are planned to be harvested, including 207,000 tons in Akhal velayat (region), 230,000 tons in Dashoguz velayat, 300,000 tons in Lebap velayat, and 313,000 tons in Mary velayat.

The campaign involves more than 7,000 tractors of various brands, more than 2,100 seeders, more than 5,000 cotton cultivators and other agricultural machinery purchased in Europe and the US. Last year, the contractual obligations were exceeded, and over 1.1 million tons of raw cotton were collected.

Cotton is a significant export item of Turkmenistan and is a popular raw material for dozens of modern enterprises in the dynamically developing textile industry in the country.
