Import in Uzbekistan exceeds export by 20%

In January-April 2018, import in Uzbekistan exceeded export by 20 percent, News of Uzbekistan reported on May 24.

Reportedly, the foreign trade turnover of Uzbekistan in the first four months of 2018 amounted to $11.3 billion, including $6.3 billion on import and $5 billion on export. The balance of foreign trade amounted to negative $1.3 million. The balance of trade with the CIS countries is negative $835 million.

According to official statistics, the sphere of services holds a significant share in the total volume of export – 29.6 percent.

The share of the energy sector in the total export volume is 14.4 percent, chemical products – 6.2 percent, metallurgy – 5.3 percent, cotton and fiber – 2.7 percent, machinery – 1.6 percent.

The main foreign trade partners of Uzbekistan in the CIS are Russia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Belarus, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. The main trade partners among other countries are China, South Korea, Turkey, Germany, Iran, Latvia and France.

It was reported earlier that Uzbekistan is planning to receive new trade preferences from the European Union. The corresponding discussion was held during the talks in Tashkent between Foreign Trade Minister Jamshid Khodjaev and the working group of the Council of the European Union for Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
