Clothing production in Azerbaijan grows

In January-May 2018, overall production of clothing in Azerbaijan totaled 20.2 million manats, which is 11.4 percent more than in the same period last year, according to the State Statistics Committee’s report.

During the year, production of leather goods and footwear grew 95.6 percent to 10.7 million manats, while a 61.4 percent growth was also recorded in the spinning industry, to 95.47 million manats.

In total, during the five months of this year, products worth 126.4 million manats (a 37.7 percent growth for the year) were manufactured in Azerbaijan’s spinning industry, footwear, clothing and leather goods production sphere.

The retail turnover of the spinning industry products, clothing and footwear amounted to 2.47 billion manats during the reporting period, which is a 3.2 percent increase for the year. Consumers spent about 18 percent of their funds on clothing and footwear in retail chains.

Compared to April, the prices for clothing fell by 0.3 percent, the prices for footwear fell by 0.6 percent, while the prices for fabrics increased by 0.3 percent in May. For the year, the prices for these products grew 3.2 percent, 2.1 percent and 6.7 percent, respectively.
