Consumers in Azerbaijan increase their expenditures

In January-May 2018, the retail trade turnover in Azerbaijan amounted to 13.7 billion manats, which is 2.4 percent more than in the same period last year, Azerbaijan’s State Statistics Committee said in a report.

Major part of the turnover accounted for individual entrepreneurs (7.16 billion manats). They are followed by markets and fairs (4.6 billion manats) and enterprises (1.9 billion manats).

During the reporting period, in average, consumers spent 279.7 manats in retail trade networks (growth of 13.5 manats per year), including 140.1 manats for food products.

During the five months of 2018, consumers purchased food and tobacco products in retail trade networks for 6.86 billion manats (a 1.8 percent growth over the year). Some 6.84 billion manats were spent on non-food products (a 3 percent growth over the year).

Consumers spent a little less than half of their funds (45.2 percent) on food products, 4.9 percent on drinks and tobacco products, 18 percent on clothing and footwear, spinning industry products, 6.2 percent on electrical goods and furniture, 5.8 percent on motor fuel, 1.3 percent on medicines and medical products, 0.7 percent on computers, ICT equipment and printed goods, and 17.9 percent on non-food products.
