By Huseyn Hasanov - Trend:

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov ordered to complete the process of reorganization of big enterprises of the transport complex into joint stock companies, Vatan newspaper writes.

This issue was discussed at a government meeting.

Turkmenistan is finalizing a draft program for the development of the transport and communication complex for 2018-2024.

Berdimuhamedov stressed the urgency of improving organizational approaches in the work of transport sub-sectors, the replenishment of their service yard with special modern equipment.

Ashgabat calls for intensifying the discussions on various aspects of the construction of the Afghanistan-Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey transport corridor within international organizations.

Berdimuhamedov, speaking recently at an international transport forum in Avaza, proposed to discuss the possibility of creating a modal highway for Central Asia with access to Turkey. According to the Lapis Lazuli Afghanistan-Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey transit project, the railways and highways will connect the city of Turgundi in the Afghan province of Herat with Ashgabat, and further with the Caspian port of Turkmenbashi. The corridor will continue to Baku, and will extend further through Tbilisi to Ankara - with branches to Poti and Batumi - and further from Ankara to Istanbul.

The budget of the project is estimated at $2 billion. This large-scale project is designed to increase the economic integration of the region and the volume of trade.
