In the first six months of the current Iranian year (started March 21) 268,000 tons of walnut kernel were produced in Iran, the Chairman of the Iran Dried Fruit Exporters Association Muhammad Hasan Shams-fard said in an interview with ILNA.

For comparison, last year, production of walnut kernel amounted to 2,179 tons.

According to Shams-fard, the produced walnut is mainly consumed in Iran and is not considered a good export product.

Due to the cold weather, in the current year Iran's walnut and pistachio products have been damaged. So, there is a need to import walnut to the country.

Iran exports walnuts from Chile, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan and other Central Asian countries, Shams-fard added.

"There is no certain price for walnut kernel. Prices vary in shops and are higher than 1,450,000 rials (approx. $34)," he said.
